Vision
We are the Arab Tech Collective, dedicated to creating a foundational, technical, Pan-Arab institution. Our vision is to provide our community with the organization, leadership, expertise, and mechanisms to not only build our own network and support structures, but also to seek, modernize, and develop collaborations & relationships with academia, civil society, governmental bodies, professional industries, and beyond. Our hope is to create a holistic STEAM association that can drive innovation, collaboration, unity, and advocacy throughout the region and diaspora.
It is clear that we need an organization determined to bring the community together in order to tackle the issues we face and build towards the future we envision; one where we have freedom, autonomy, and technological independence. Now more than ever, we must unite and lay the foundation for that future.
To better understand our vision, it is important to break down each section of our Mission Statement and how it contributes to this vision:
“Building a network of Arab professionals to drive innovation in tech.”
There are many Arab professionals throughout tech and throughout the world; however, there are no central associations bringing together all these academics, professionals, students, and leaders. By connecting everyone, we make it possible to support one another, create new opportunities, accumulate expertise, and help lead our respective industries.
"Our organization works to centralize resources ..."
An essential piece to building a foundational organization is aggregating core resources and information, distilling that information for ease of use, and making that information easily discoverable and readily available. We aim to be a central hub for a wide range of quality data, relationships, and services, to help our members and community.
"Our organization works to ... support professional development ..."
It is essential that we support the development of our members. In an increasingly competitive landscape, we need to push ourselves to the highest standards—and if we want to be leaders in our field, we must also redefine those standards. By aggregating our collective experiences, we can teach future generations how to excel in their chosen path.
"Our organization works to ... shift perceptions ..."
For decades, our community has faced intense and coordinated defamation. These negative perceptions are sometimes disseminated inside our community just as much as outside. This stems from past and present colonial and neocolonial pressures—challenges that many regions and peoples have come up against. It may be argued that we face a greater force due to settler and geopolitical interests, but irrespective we must address it nonetheless.
In order to combat these false perceptions, we need to educate, participate, and lead. We must unite, and by doing so help mend rifts inside and outside the region.
"Our organization works to ... maximize our collective potential."
Finally, as a whole, we aim to push the boundaries of what our community can achieve and set a strong foundation for future generations. Technology affects every aspect of our lives, and we cannot be passive observers. We need to have a coordinated and coherent strategy to help each other succeed and reach our full potential—both as individuals and collectively as one group.
